Geometric abstract painting – oil on canvas – 2003 – 2005
After many years of production alternating between figuration and abstraction, Thierry Virton is now starting his first series of resolutely abstract paintings. The approach to this as yet uncharted continent was simple: the geometrisation of the pictorial space. Geometric composition offered him a logical and mathematical framework for creation, based on concepts of balance. The result is sensitive, yet rather static paintings, sometimes with a touch of naivety. However, the colour work suggests good colouring skills.
